A late goal by Norther Ireland midfielder Grant McCann secured a 3-2 win over Derby on Saturday.
“It’s a stunning goal from a player who had a fantastic game,” said Ferguson of McCann.
“I told the lads at half-time, when we were 2-1 down, that they would win if they could keep a clean sheet – and Grant made sure we did it in style with virtually the last kick of the game.
“It’s a great win and one we needed after three defeats, although I have to admit I wasn’t too worried.
“It’s always exciting down here for the fans but we obviously have to stop falling behind in games.
“We are scoring a lot of goals but we can’t afford to make mistakes at the other end.”
