Rooney sustained a hip injury in the win at Swansea last weekend and missed the Champions League draw with Benfica midweek.
Reports have suggested Rooney could also be out this weekend.
But Ferguson has confirmed that Rooney should return for the clash with the Magpies at Old Trafford on Saturday.
