Villa is struggling to get regular first-team football at Barcelona and was wanted by Liverpool 18 months ago when he left Valencia.
The People reports that Liverpool are ready to make a new move for Villa next summer if they return to the Champions League.
Villa is no longer guaranteed in the starting line-up at Nou Camp and could be interested in a move away from the club.
Villa’s current contract with Barcelona expires in 2014 and contains a stunning £170million buy-out clause.
Barcelona would reportedly consider selling Villa for around £40million.
