The People reports that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is keen to bring in the defender in the January transfer window.
Spurs scout David Pleat has checked out the Belgian international centre-back in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old’s current contract with Spurs is set to expire in 18 months and Ajax could decide to cash in on the defender in January.
Vertonghen has also been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.
