Cardiff are currently fifth in the Championship and are gunning for promotion to the Premier League.
“We are certainly going to be going for people. Whether we get them or not depends on market forces. If we can get at least a couple who are Championship-ready then we will,” Mackay told Wales Online.
“We will be examining permanent deals and the loan market if necessary. We need cover in certain areas but January is not the time we are going to go for cover. If we bring in anyone next month it will invariably be someone who can help the team.
“It’s a balancing act between the cover players and the ones who are going to come in and hit the ground running in the first-team squad.”
