He said: “We’ve got to start putting the results against Croatia and Macedonia behind us by winning the next two games.
“We’ve got enough games and points left for us to be able to correct what’s gone on before. At the moment, it’s still in our own hands.
“We have to win against Israel and Andorra. If we don’t we’ll be in trouble in terms of qualifying. It would be unacceptable for England not to be at Euro 2008.
“I don’t think anything less than two victories will be acceptable for us but I’m confident we’ll do well, although Israel will be a tough game.
“I genuinely believe we have a good group of players and we have players back like Wayne Rooney and John Terry.
“England haven’t qualified for some tournaments in the last 30-40 years. We had play-offs against Scotland, a group decider in Italy, where the result could have gone the other way.
“People shouldn’t take it for granted but we do have a good group of players.”
