The decision came moments after Cameroon went top of their World Cup qualifying group because Togo had fielded an ineligible player against them in a qualifier to forfeit three points.
FIFA confirmed that the suspension was because of government interference, saying: “The FIFA statutes oblige member associations to manage their affairs independently and with no influence from third parties.”
