Mackay insists that he is determined to make sure the club remain in the Premier League.
Reports have suggested that Mackay considered leaving Cardiff following club owner Vincent Tan’s controversial decision to sack head of recruitment Iain Moody.
“It’s not great when the club is in the media spotlight and it’s nothing to do with football,” Mackay told the Daily Mail.
“I feel sorry for the fans. They have been immense. We beat City in our first home game, it was a beautiful day and it was a day for us all to feel very proud.
“And then this happened. The situation had been building for a wee while, it wasn’t just a week.
“But I have a steely determination that nothing will take away my focus. I need to make sure that this team does well and that I am sitting here talking to you this time next year as a Premier League manager.”
