Fabio Capello was born in San Canzian d’Isonzo, Gorizia, Italy in 1946. He made his professional debut for Ferrara side SPAL in 1964. During his playing career he also played for Italian giants Roma, Juventus and AC Milan. He also managed to get 32 caps for Italy.
In 1973 the new England boss managed to score the only goal as Italy managed to beat England at Wembley, for the first time.
In 1991 he was appointed head coach of AC Milan and in the following year he won the first of three successive Serie A titles with the club.
Capello managed to get AC Milan to the Champions League final in 1993, but they were beaten 1-0 by a strong Marseille. The following year Capello managed to guide AC Milan to the Champions League final again, and this time they managed to bear Barcelona 4-0. Later the same year they also won the European Super Cup. In 1995 he guided AC Milan to their third successive Champions League final, but this time they lost 1-0 to Dutch giants Ajax.
In 1996 Capello left AC Milan and joined Spanish giants Real Madrid after winning a fourth Scudetto in five seasons. The following year he won the Spanish league title. After winning the title he returned for a second spell with AC Milan, a move that was unsuccessful as he was fired the following year.
In 1999 Capello took over as coach of Roma and in 2001 he won the title with the club. This was the first Scudetto for 18 years for Roma, and the third in their history,
In 2004 he decided to leave Roma and take over as Juventus coach. Capello won the Scudetto in his first season with the club. In 2006 he managed to retain the Scudetto, but Juventus was stripped of the title following match-fixing allegations. In July the same year he decided to resign, after speculations that new Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon wanted him to return to the club.
During his last spell at Real Madrid he sanctioned the departures of super stars Ronaldo and David Beckham. In June this year he managed to win the first league title with the club. This was Real Madrid’s first league title since 2003. On the 28th of June he was sacked.
In November he declared he was interested in replacing Steve McClaren as new England manager. On 14th of December he was named new England manager by the FA.
