Premier League clubs had an overall net spending on transfer fees of £29.92million in the January transfer window, according to the Times. Last year the net spending in the window was a massive £67.5million.
Clubs have signed fewer players from overseas than last January, due to the weak pound. Only 40 per cent of arrivals were from abroad. The recession have also seen loan signings double since last year.
Amongst the most shocking moves we must include Julien Faubert. The West Ham defender joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on loan until the end of the season, during the transfer window.
Carloc Cudicini, who joined Tottenham Hotspur for free from Chelsea, could become one of the smartest moves of the transfer window. The Italian goalkeeper has several times impressed at Chelsea, but has been kept out of the team by Petr Cech.
Emile Heskey could become the man Aston Villa need in order to secure Champions League football at Villa Park for next season. The England forward went from Wigan Athletic to Aston Villa for just £3.5million.
