On Wednesday night, United suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Burnley. The defeat was another point in a season of inconsistency. The loss at Old Trafford against the Clarets means that Manchester United have the lowest points tally in 30 years after 24 outings.
Despite the team’s poor season so far, the Red Devils hierarchy are reportedly backing boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Underwhelming from United
All credit to Burnley, they took their chances and saw off United. It was another underwhelming display for Solskjaer’s team. The Red Devils are still fifth-place in the Premier League, six points off the Champions League spots.
However, that is down to the fact that the teams below the top two or three teams in the English top-flight are not of great quality.
Solskjaer out of his depth
While Manchester United head coach Solskjaer is not responsible for all the Red Devils current problems, the Norwegian is currently looking out of his depth as the boss of the men from Manchester.
If he was not a United icon, then Solskjaer would be nowhere near the Old Trafford hot seat, as his CV is highly underwhelming. The rookie boss comes across as a nice guy, but that is not the main attribute for a top-level coach.
Manchester United have a long way back
There is a long way back for Manchester United to be back at the top of the English football tree. The Red Devils are now majorly in the shadow of arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. United are miles behind the top two teams in the Premier League.
It will take more than a managerial change to make United great again. Would a more experienced coach be producing better results? We will not know, but surely a coach with more experience could get more out of the players at Old Trafford.
