Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is gearing up for a £30 million move to sign Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix in January, following Joel Matip’s season-ending injury.
The Reds are forced into the market due to Matip’s ACL rupture against Fulham, which likely marks the end of his tenure with Liverpool as his contract expires this summer.
Lacroix, 23, has caught Klopp’s eye with his impressive performances in the Bundesliga since his move from Sochaux in 2020, according to The Sun.
Known for his speed and versatility, the 6ft 3in Frenchman, who can also cover right-back, is seen as an ideal candidate to bolster Liverpool’s defense. Wolfsburg values Lacroix, who has 18 months left on his contract, at £30 million.
Lacroix’s potential arrival at Anfield could provide much-needed stability to Liverpool’s backline.
The defender has already demonstrated leadership, captaining Wolfsburg earlier this season, and contributing to two clean sheets despite the team’s fluctuating Bundesliga performance.
