The former Juventus goalkeeper announced his retirement after the goalless draw against Roma on Sunday.
Rossi told Rai Radio Anch’io: “He is one of the few real Italian champions left, the other ones have yet to grow and mature.
“He has won everything and has reached the highest levels from a technical point of view and as to his prestige as well.
“Angelo is a key player and a reference point for all our men. If he decided to quit, and I still hope it isn’t true then it means he really cannot stand the pain and injuries any more.”
