Distin left Manchester City after his contract expired at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old joined Manchester City from Paris St Germain for £4million in 2002 and spent five years at Eastlands.
He said: “It was a tough decision but I am happy to stick by it.
“When you’re on a free transfer you are going to get a lot of offers but this is the one I wanted to take.”
