“Things need to change if Lazio don’t want to become a feeder club where players get to a level and then go elsewhere,” he told Nuova Spazio Radio.
“The Aquile have kept last season’s squad except they have lost two players, including Angelo Peruzzi – one of the best goalkeepers in the world in my opinion.
“President Claudio Lotito chose to base the future on youngsters which is a good policy, but you need experience, especially in the Champions League.
“I believe that Lazio can repeat what they have done in recent times, but they need to improve.
“They are a big club with a strong following and a great history and they deserve a squad to match. You have to spend the money to match your ambitions.”
