He told the Portsmouth News: “I’ve got to do a lot of work with Sol (Campbell), Sylvain (Distin), Hermann (Hreidarsson) and Glen (Johnson).
“It’s pretty much a brand new back four. I know Glen and Sol played last year but they’ve even switched sides, now Sol’s playing alongside Glen rather than next to the left back. There’s certain things Sol does that Linvoy didn’t do.
“We need to do absolutely bags of work but I haven’t had an opportunity in the last three weeks to work with them.
“They will get better. They’re inexperienced and have not played together too much so they’ve got to keep working.
“For a start I would like Sol to be more dominant and come through and attack things and let Sylvain cover. I think that would be a better partnership.
“We’re a different team when Sol attacks the ball, the first half against Reading showed that. Sol was magnificent in the first half and the second half a little bit hesitant.
“Then there was the first half against Derby, Sylvain’s gone up for that ball and that should have been Sol. Matt Oakley scored because of that.
“You can’t just show up, these things need time and they need to work as a defensive unit.”
