Wigan will pay Birmingham around £3million in compensation for Bruce.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan said: “We’ve received permission to talk to Steve and have a further meeting with him Monday morning. We look like we now have a contract agreed.
“There is a clause in his Birmingham contract and we have to honour that.
“But if you are talking about paying £3m for a player or a manager of Steve’s quality, I don’t think you can argue.”
