Crouch told the People: “For me, Harry would be an excellent candidate. I’ve worked with him before and know he is a top, top manager. You just have to look at the job he is doing at Portsmouth to realise itwouldn’t be a mistake to appoint him.
“He is a manager who gets the best out of players and that is what England need, someone who can get the best out of the undoubted talent we have.
“Harry’s honesty is his strength. He is totally honest and open with you at all times. He’ll certainly let you know if you’ve had a bad game – but he’ll boost your confidence, make you feel special and tell you how good you are.
“I think about someone like Benjani, who struggled for goals when he first came to Portsmouth, as a good example of what Harry can do. I’m sure he told Benjani similar things to what he told mewhen I was low on confidence – now he’s the top goalscorer in the Premier League.”
