Defoe is happy to extend his current contract which expires in 2009.
Defoe revealed: “I spoke to the manager and he said, ‘I want you to stay, you are part of the plans’. It was great to hear that.
“I told the chairman I wanted to sign and I was honest with the manager. Now the chairman and my agent will sort it.
“I want to play every game but the manager will rotate. But he said ‘When you get a chance, do well and you’ll play’.”
