Wenger said: “Every time I go to Newcastle I feel there is a great potential within the club. But in order to turn things around you need time.
“I don’t know exactly what is going on inside the club but the pressure Sam finds himself under is a bit harsh.
“There has been a lot of speculation about his future and it would be surprising if it were true because he has only just been appointed.”
