He said: “Capello will do what he thinks — but I’m sure that John Terry is the best captain that England can have.
“I am with John Terry every day and I cannot see a better captain than him.
“When players are down he lifts them and he knows how to deal with his team-mates.
“On the pitch you see he is a good defender.
“Off the pitch, he spoke to the players in September when things were not going well. He got them together and showed how much he cared about Chelsea.
“Also he does get on well with everyone and does a lot of work off the pitch for charities and children.
“There is a lot that you do not see.”
Grant added: “Capello is not a stupid man.
“I don’t think he will replace John as captain.
“With any player in the world you can find someone who will say he has something that is not so good.
“But if you ask the coaches all over the world they would want a captain like John Terry.
“You see how he connects with others. I’m here every day with him.
“He is an example to others off the pitch. He is a great captain 24 hours a day.”
