Sunderland boss Keane: Kenwyne is worth £40M

Keane insists he would not consider swapping Jones with any other striker.

He said: “There’s no doubt we have the best striker in the Premier League. If certain strikers are worth £20m, he is worth £40m.

“Spurs have some great strikers like Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Defoe. But seriously, I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.”

He added: “A big help for Kenwyne has been Yorkie and Carlos being here. They like the banter between themselves.

“Kenwyne has really surprised us. We knew he was a talented lad, but he has knuckled down.

“Even last week, he was clearly not 100 per cent fit, but he is doing a great job for the team. Ultimately, all the top players over the years are also big team players.

“Tottenham probably have the three best strikers although Manchester United may argue with that, quite rightly. But they are getting more service than Kenwyne.

“We have not given him too many chances. He probably gets two chances every four games.

“One of his strengths at this club is his attitude. He was slightly younger at Southampton.

“Being the laid-back type of bloke he is, he probably needs a few gentle pushes in the right direction now and then but that is my job.

“Last season, I took the job and said I didn’t know too much about Championship players. But we heard good reports about him and it helped he knew Yorkie.

“We got lucky with him. He is very raw, which probably helped. As you get older you get coached too much and change what you are good at.”
