He said: “After my first two Premier League matches I was worried because everything was so fast. It felt like playing tennis not football.
“It’s bloody fast here! But I’m quick and England has made me more aggressive.
“Being the club’s record signing means people were really expecting goals from me. But when they didn’t come immediately, the Pompey faithful stuck behind me.
“Now I’m rewarding them. My target for the season was 15 goals and I’m only three goals away from that already.”
Benjani added: “I want to give Pompey a place in Europe or a cup win. I’m determined to leave a legacy.
“After two years I might consider going home to Africa to play — which is why I need to push myself to the limit for Pompey.
“Every chance I get I want to score because this is a great small club. We may not have the financial resources of the really big clubs but the manager has signed quality players.”
