Ancelotti said: “It’s disappointing, but we were foolish and gifted Manchester United the victory when a draw was probably the more accurate reflection of the game.
“We fell back in the final stages, couldn’t move the ball around the same way and gave away a silly deciding goal in stoppages.
“We knew Manchester never give in and that there would be moments of difficulty, as they are very aggressive and play at a high tempo. The shame is that we played better for an hour, but in turn that gives us more confidence for the second leg. We’re in better shape than we were in the Bayern tie at this stage.”
