Arnold told reporters after the 2-0 win against Bahrain on Wednesday: “I think it’s shown that the players want to play for me, definitely.
“You have seen their effort and commitment, and tactically and structurally we have been fine on both occasions. If anything it’s given me more confidence and shown that the FFA (Football Federation Australia) can relax.
“It definitely gives me some satisfaction. Over the last eight days, if anything I have proved I can handle the job if need be for however long they want me to handle it,” he said.
“I am a very proud Australian, very proud of the boys and proud to be with the Socceroos for such a long time, and when you are boss, of course, you get the appetite to go on with it, but those decisions are not mine.
“All I have tried to do is strengthen my claims and I think I have proven in the games I have been in charge that I could handle it if need be.”
