Adebayor said: “I was on the bench when Monaco lost to Porto in the Champions League final in 2005.
“The following year I was with Arsenal when they played Barcelona in the final. But because I had already played for Monaco, I was not eligible that season.
“So I have been to the final twice and not played. I could see all these special things going on and could not participate. It was difficult in my head.
“After the World Cup, the Champions League is the highest level of competition. This is what gives you a special motivation.
“There’s an argument for me to be more hungry than most of my team-mates, but I’m not the only one with a point to prove in Europe. Cesc Fabregas and Kolo Toure have lost in the final as well.”
