Wenger has had scouts watch the 21-year-old recently, according to the Daily Mirror.
Van der Wiel caught the Gunners’ eye when they were tracking Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen, who joined the club from Ajax in the summer.
Van der Wiel is also being watched by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
