Arsenal are actively pursuing Getafe’s Borja Mayoral with a £22 million offer, aiming to strengthen their attack under Mikel Arteta’s leadership.
Despite Arteta’s initial interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney, a steep £100 million valuation has redirected Arsenal’s attention to the La Liga striker, according to The Sun.
Reports also suggested that Arsenal were keen on signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, but that seems like a long shot as well.
Mayoral, a Real Madrid academy product, has been impressive this season, particularly in his partnership with Mason Greenwood, contributing significantly to Getafe’s strong league position.
While Brentford and Fulham previously showed interest in Mayoral, Arsenal has stepped up with a substantial bid.
However, Getafe is holding out for around £39 million for the 26-year-old, who has already netted 12 league goals this season.
Mayoral’s potential move to the Emirates would mark his first venture into the Premier League, having been previously linked with a switch to Crystal Palace during his time at Roma.
Arsenal hopes that Mayoral’s addition will provide the necessary boost to their frontline, addressing their current scoring challenges.
