The Mirror reports that the Belgian defender underwent surgery in Stockholm on his left Achilles yesterday and could be out for two months.
Vermaelen took a kick on his leg during the clash with Udinese nearly two weeks ago, that forced the defender to go under the knife.
The defender is hoping to be back quicker than two months.
