The England international has been struggling with a foot injury that he suffered during the win at Wigan last week.
“Gabby is improving but the game on Wednesday comes too early for him,” O’Neill told Sky Sports News.
“It’s one of those [injuries] we’ll have to monitor day-by-day – the scans are okay and he’s improving, but it’s slower than we thought.”
