Villa could make a move for the former Celtic star in the January transfer window, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The 24-year-old joined Spartak in a £12million deal from Celtic in August, but the winger has reportedly failed to settle in Moscow.
Villa could be keen to bring in McGeady as a replacement for Ashley Young, who has been linked with the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United.
