The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland striker worked under Martin O’Neill, when the Villa boss was Celtic manager.
A Celtic source told The Sund: “Aidan feels it may be time to move on and try his luck in England.
“He is aware of interest from Newcastle and Sunderland in the past. The fact Aston Villa are now keen may appeal to him as he progressed as a youngster under Martin O’Neill.”
