Tuttomercatoweb reports that Barcelona are keen to strengthen their midfielder in January and view Herrera as an ideal signing.
Herrera joined United in June 2014 for £24million and has scored 10 goals in 38 appearances for the Red Devils.
United boss Louis van Gaal is reportedly still unconvinced by Herrera, who has completed just one 90-minute Premier League game this season.
