Benitez said: “I am very happy we have qualified for the next round of the Champions League and we have done a good job in the group.
“I felt we played well in the first half and then when they were reduced to 10 men we had more space and created more chances. We could have scored more goals but to score three was good and as a manager I must be pleased.”
He added: “I was delighted to see Steven Gerrard score his first goal of the season and he deserved it.
“He scored 23 goals last season and maybe that put pressure on him this season but he has been playing well and hopefully he will score more goals now for us.”
