The Liverpool boss said: “We brought Robbie Fowler back here because he had passion and could score goals. He trained so hard, but then he got a back injury.
“He had to stop. But he is now training and he knows he has players ahead of him, but he can do a good job for us. He is a fan and he has the spirit we want.
“He understands that he must support his team-mates and he must be an example for the younger players. I hope he can play and score.
“If he is fit he can play a big part. He has intelligence, a fantastic finisher. Players have problems as they get older and they do not have the pace, so he must be patient and take the opportunities when they are there.”
