The 27-year-old has been a hit at Birmingham since joining the club in a £5million deal last season.
“I wouldn’t be sitting here if I didn’t think I could get to that level,” he said in The Times.
“Every English player should think that if they play well enough, then they’ve got a chance.
“I’m going to try my hardest to get in that squad and, to do that, I need to play well for Birmingham week in, week out.
“If I did get in, I would want to try and do as much as I can so that they (Capello and his staff) thought, “This guy is good to have around. He works hard.’ But getting that initial chance is the main thing.”
