Hughes said after the game: “I thought we were really positive this evening, I thought we came here with game plan and it wasn’t a case of just coming here and trying to frustrate Chelsea.
“We came here and felt we had guys in the team that could affect the game in a positive way and we tried to win the game here.
“At the time of the first goal we had started really brightly, created a couple of chances but then switched off and allowed Drogba in, a great finish. But from that point onwards in the first half I thought we were very much in the game, we kept on getting our full-backs involved in the play, we kept possession in midfield and we were causing them problems.
“The second half was a similar story but then Frank Lampard comes and produces a fantastic strike. That’s the quality that Chelsea have, they can produce moments of magic that turn games for them.
“I think we have come here and been positive, but in the end we’ve lost 3-0. Overall we are reasonably pleased with the way we’ve performed, obviously I’m disappointed with the result but we’ve come here and been positive, ask questions of Chelsea and not many teams do that.”
