He has already handed in a transfer request at Blackburn Rovers which has been rejected.
Today he attempted to revive any prospective switch, telling The Sun: “I signed a new deal last January because Venky’s told me they had big plans. Names like Ronaldinho were mentioned and they promised there was going to be a lot of investment in the team. It hasn’t happened.
“They don’t understand football in this country and they don’t realise how much I’ve given to Blackburn and that they have broken promises they have made. I stayed because I believed them, but they weren’t honest with me and now I know I made the wrong decision. I share the frustration of the fans who must have believed the owners too.”
It has often been said Venky’s don’t understand football. There’s possibly some truth in it. But what has to be said is that so far, what they have done appears to be finally working.
Sure, there was a dip after Sam Allardyce left. But that was always going to happen. Allardyce turned Blackburn into a hard to beat, direct, physical team. Steve Kean is trying to make them play good football. It seems to work – they have scored in every away game this season so far. Results have not been great but they have been very good at times, beating Arsenal and Manchester United. No one has thrashed them, and they are now battling their way away from the relegation zone.
Samba of course, seems not to care. His gripe about Venky’s may be genuine, or it may be money talking. Money usually talks of course.
But Kean deserves time and players to show loyalty to him. He has demonstrated something key. Sometimes you have to go back to go forward. When trying to play good football and turn a team previously managed by Allardyce into one who can pass it for more than five seconds, it takes patience. It means dismantling a formula and starting again. Of course you will go back. For Blackburn though, they’d do well to give Kean a chance.
Fans these days don’t seem to accept that sometimes you have to go back to take a step forward. Kean though, has shown he has the ability to pull the club out of danger and deserves to be given a proper chance to have a go.
Venky’s are maligned of course, but so was Mike Ashley at Newcastle. Now look where Newcastle are, not that Ashley would get any credit for his inspired decision to get rid of the trio of Chris Hughton, Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan which has served them so well and been the catalyst for their rise to European challengers.
Blackburn too, can do the same thing if they follow the Newcastle blueprint. Ignore the fans, think long term and give a decent manager a proper chance to do the job.
