Bolton’s win over Watford on Saturday, was their first for the New Year.
Anelka told the club’s website: “We are now back after a disappointing start to the year.
“This victory has lifted confidence in the camp again.
“The goal came from nothing. The ball fell to me after their keeper tried to clear.
“I instinctively hit the shot. When chances are limited, you have to make sure that you are ruthless when they come your way.
“I said to the gaffer [Sam Allardyce], I would be okay to play.
“I felt happy with my fitness on the day of the game and I was made up to play the full match and score the winner.”
