The Brazil international was close to joining the Blues but ended up signing a new deal with Santos.
“The uncertain period that followed after Chelsea’s offer was another good experience for me: saying no to a move to Europe and choosing to stay at Santos,” said the 18-year-old Neymar on the official FIFA website.
“It was tough making that decision, but I don’t regret it. I think that my family and I made the right choice and I’m very happy to have done so.
“I experienced a number of situations this year that have really helped, not just on the pitch but off it too. So I think that this was a really pivotal year in my life – a year that I’ll never forget. I’ve learnt a lot and managed to become the player I am today.”
