The 23 year old has been linked with Rangers, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest and looks certain to be on his way out of Fir Park this summer.
“Mark wants to progress his career and he has been very good to Motherwell,” said Brown. “He was an ever-present but for the last game of last season at Ibrox.
“He deserves the best move he can get and the club is supportive of his move because it would benefit the club financially but also because it would benefit Mark, and he has been such a good servant here.
“But we have not had one official enquiry to the club for him. His agent is working on it.
“We would lose a terrific player but it would give us funds to strengthen the team. Without Mark going, we can’t sign anyone. That’s it in a nutshell.”
