Lennon managed to produce a Man of the Match display in The Three Lions’ 5-1 triumph over Croatia on Wednesday.
Capello put the Tottenham winger on the bench at the weekend against Slovenia.
“In my mind Aaron Lennon was always going to be in the first XI against Croatia,” said Capello.
“I saw him in the last game for Tottenham against Birmingham. I also saw him in training this week.
“He has been fantastic. We need a player like him. It is not easy to stop him one-to-one.”
