Carragher told Liverpool’s official website: “Stevie was a bit unfortunate before his goal. He had quite a few opportunities but didn’t hit the target.
“I know him well and know how he would have felt if he hadn’t scored. It was a great relief for him to get that goal. He is up and running now and I am sure he will get a few more.
“He is like the rest of us in that we are disappointed at how we have done this season.
“Stevie is off the mark and what he did last year, 23 goals for a midfield player, you can’t expect him to do every year.
“It is going be difficult to better that. But I am sure he will get into double figures.”
