The People reports that Celtic want to take Ireland on loan for the rest of the season.
Ireland has failed to make an impact at Villa Park since joining the club from Manchester City in August.
Villa are reportedly keen to sell the midfielder in an attempt to recoup some of the £7million they spent on him, but may consider letting him leave on loan.
