Cole announced his retirment from football today.
“I played for England 15 times, I’m not going to complain about that,” he told Setanta Sports News. “At the time there were a lot of good centre forwards but such is life.”
“You’re always going to have regrets. My only regret is that I left Man United too early, I left when I was 30. Being the person that I was I just wanted to play football. Otherwise I’ve enjoyed it so much.
“I’ve enjoyed my time. I think the time’s right now, I’ve had a great career and enjoyed every minute of it. It came to the stage where I’m 36 or 37 in a super sub role [at Nottingham Forest]. I don’t have to do that after the career I’ve had.”
