Cottee said in the Daily Post: “With his chances of returning to Old Trafford looking remote, especially now that Ben Foster is heading back there irrespective of what happens to Watford in the summer, it would be terrific if Everton can get him signed up permanently.
“Some will worry that another club will step in and snatch him out of Everton’s grasp but just consider the options for a moment. Arsenal and Chelsea have cover in that area, there is no chance of him ending up at Liverpool, so why would they be a more attractive proposition?
“He will know that Everton are an ambitious club, he is established as the number one and won’t have to uproot his family; surely, then, all the cards are stacked in the Blues’ favour? I would be surprised if he does not thrash out a permanent deal.”
