The Uruguayan has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants in recent weeks.
“I’m not surprised [that Suarez is being followed by Barcelona],” de Boer told El Mundo Deportivo.
“He is Ajax’s most important player, a player of sufficient quality to play for Barcelona.”
He added: “Although he is not Messi, tactically speaking there are a few similarities. He can play as the centre-forward because he is smart and very skilful in front of goal.
“But his best position is on the wing. Luis makes very good diagonal runs and is dangerous when he approaches the area because of his final ball and his shot.
“You never know what he will do – he has a great ability to surprise his opponents.”
