De Jong completed his £19million move from Hamburg earlier this week.
“I am happy to have joined Manchester City,” De Jong told Sky Sports News. “It is a good club, well-known also in Europe.
“I am happy to be here and hope to be successful with the team.
“It is not going to be easy to get the project going, everbody knows it is a project of one or two years.
“I am glad to be part of the project, it is going to be hard for us, but I think we can manage it if the team stick together.”
De Jong has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City.
