A good old fashioned centre-forward, “The Doog” was one of the great characters from the 60s and 70s. He scored 123 goals in 323 appearances for Wolves between 1967 and 1975, winning the League Cup in 1974, and was also capped 43 times for Northern Ireland.
When he retired from playing, Dougan eventually became chairman of the Professional Footballers Association, championing players’ rights and securing some of the improved conditions today’s players take for granted.
