Desailly does not believe the pair will be enought in the central midfield to combat the passing style of Barcelona.
Desailly told TalkSPORT: “United have to be compact, I just hope Alex Ferguson will not make the mistake of putting Ryan Giggs alongside Michael Carrick because it’s not enough in midfield.
“You need to press the opponent, you need to be able to get the ball back in your half and you need players who can run and press.”
He added: “For Barcelona it’s the collective who make the difference. I would say Messi [is a key player] but you have Villa, you have Pedro, you have Iniesta, you have Xavi. Collectively the danger will come from everywhere in the Barcelona side.”
